Key Features of Twin Screws

Co-rotating twin screw extruders are heralded for their ability to consistently deliver high-quality compounding of plastics, making them a linchpin technology in the industry.

  • High-Precision Engineering: Their construction demands precision engineering to successfully handle highly viscous kneading, a process which is crucial in the formation of numerous materials.
  • Wear Resistance: Components like screws, barrels, and shafts need to withstand extensive wear and tear. Our products provide heightened wear resistance, ensuring longevity and durability.
  • Quality Assurance: Parts supplied by C.A.PICARD® are renowned for matching, and frequently exceeding, the quality standards set by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Common Applications of Twin Screws

The primary applications of twin screw extruders are far-reaching, but they are most notably utilized in:

Plastics:

Compounding and molding various types of plastics for industrial use.

Nutrition and Pet Food:

Mixing and processing ingredients to create consistent, high-quality food products.

Technical Specifications

Twin Screw
Twin screw extruders are wonderfully adaptable, capable of being tailored to meet the specific needs of a diverse range of production environments. With over 30,000 machines in use around the globe, their significance in modern manufacturing cannot be overstated.

Our twin screw extruders excel in handling tasks that require careful control and precision:

Devolatilization: To remove volatile substances from polymers, ensuring the purity and stability of the material.

Thermally Sensitive Material Processing: Capable of pumping and processing materials that are particularly sensitive to heat, preserving their structural integrity.

Compounding: Expertly combines ingredients to form homogenous mixtures, ideal for customized formulations.

Reactive Mixing: Serves as a reaction chamber for complex chemical processes, offering a combination of mixing and transport functionalities for viscous materials.

Segment Customization for Optimal Performance

A characteristic feature of virtually all twin screw extruders is their modular design. The screw profile can easily be adjusted to the particular needs of a given process task. For this, screw segments (also called screw elements) are mounted onto a common shaft. Different screw segments are designed to give conveying, compression, reverse-conveying, barrier and kneading.

The innately self-cleaning profile can be further optimised to enhance certain characteristics by modification of outer and/or inner diameter as well as the contour. Increases of the intake or conveying capacity, or reduction of temperature and stress peaks, is frequently the reason to abandon the closely intermeshing “Erdmenger”-profile.
